About Futsal

Because the sport is a great skill developer, demanding quick reflexes, fast thinking and pin point passing, it is an exciting game for children as well as adults.

Just by playing with the ball develops precise ball control and technical skill, agility, lightening reflexes and decision making.  As the balls have less bounce they tend to stay in play longer and promote close ball control.

Playing in enclosed areas and learning to think and react quickly, players find when they play to the full game they react well under pressure.

Playing in enclosed areas develops creativity; players are also constantly placed in demanding decision-making situations in enclosed areas which is a major reason why Futsal is one of the finest teachers of the quick pass and move.

In soccer, it is very hard to defend against a team that is adept at this type of play.

Slide tackles and excessive bodily contact is forbidden in the modified game, which results in fewer injuries. It’s no surprise that the game is popular with children, teenagers and adults of both genders and is growing in popularity internationally.

Futsal quickly develop skills required for soccer: - balance, motor ability, agility and co-ordination, ball mastery, accurate and quick passing and receiving, perception insight and awareness.  Children learn through repetition and practice in small areas this occurs naturally.

As Futsal is fast and action packed, fitness is improved while learning and having fun.  It is exciting, many goals are scored and the game is devoid of complex rules such as off side.

Player Development Benefit

1. 5 players per team, chances of a player being provided more opportunities to attack and defend are enhanced.

2. Players are six times more likely to touch the ball in futsal than 11v11 soccer

3. Goalkeepers are called into action frequently to make a high number of spectacular saves with all parts of their body.

4. Hard surface, heavier and lower bounce futsal ball conditions players to pass to feet and along the ground, thus increasing the tempo and frequency of passing combinations between players.

5. Receiving and gaining control of a futsal ball is slightly easier than a soccer ball as it responds to the player's touch with less "life" Consequently, the ball is likely to stay in play longer and players will be less inclined

6. Although there are some distinctions in rules, approaches and techniques between futsal and outdoor soccer, there are many aspects of futsal performance that are transferable and can enhance soccer performance.  For example, techniques such as beating or escaping an opponent and creating space with fakes/bumps and runs off the ball will occur far more often in futsal than soccer.

7. Space is inevitably tight on a futsal court and opportunities to get behind the defense is limited.  Consequently, players are required to create and utilize space using quick ball movements, switches of play and creativity.

8. Futsal is not just a game of attacking flair.  A variety of defending tactics are strategies may be utilized. Players must be familiar with different defending approaches and be able to switch seamlessly, for a team may employ several formations and shapes in the same game.

9. Futsal teaches players and teams the balance between risk and reward.  Decisions to support an attack and at the same time be mindful of defensive responsibilities if possession is lost are amplified in futsal.

10. Futsal is universally identified as a fast-paced game, but subtle changes in rhythm will occur depending on the level of organization of the opponent’s defense.  Futsal is a great training ground to teach players when and how to use quick ball circulation and when and how to slow the tempo.

11. Futsal teaches players and teams the importance of ball retention and possession to protect against the real threat of an opponent’s counter attack.
